Day 2 - Friday, February 17th
Today we will wake up early, have breakfast and prepare for our drive to Arenal National Park in our private transport. Nowhere else in Costa Rica allows you the luxurious yet captivating proximity to a (now) dormant volcano encircled by rich rainforest, diverse wildlife and a multitude of adventure activities. The tour will begin with a hike in Arenal’s National Park and embark on a tour through the Arenal Reserve's suspension bridges and primary rainforest. This tour is both a fun and an educational way to get to know more about this natural environment. The trails you will be led through are designed for all levels of trekkers and cover about 3100m (10,170 feet) of the mountainous zone. The walking part of your tour is about 3km (1.9 miles) in length so you can admire the great diversity of flora and fauna found here. The hike begins on one of the trails close to the volcano, and will take you through the forest over recent lava flows and the area destroyed in 1968, now in the process of regeneration. The walk will give you the chance to spot the forest’s activity and unique flora whilst your guide points these out to you and explains about the reserve's ecosystems, wildlife and the prominent effect of the volcano's activity on the area. We will also break for lunch for some traditional Costa Rican food at a local restaurant before heading to our accommodations for a nice evening of relaxation. In the evening, we recommend visiting a local restaurant for dinner and enjoy the evening at your own pace.
*INCLUDED -- Transfers: San Jose, Arenal National Park, Monteverde (approx. 4 hours) | Activities included in the tour: Arenal National Park, La Fortuna Waterfall | Meals: Breakfast; Lunch | Accommodation: Hotel in Monteverde
Day 3- Saturday, February 18th
Time to enjoy the natural evergreen environment of the misty Cloud Forests. We will make our way to Monteverde Cloud forest where this unique environment is almost always shrouded in mist giving it an ethereal feel, as if nothing else beyond the cloud exists. Monteverde is the country’s most renowned destination for cloud forests. A small town hemmed in by the Santa Elena and Monteverde Reserves, it is also very close to the Arenal volcano area. Here you can hike along the trails that traverse these copious habitats of lichen, moss and orchids, populated by butterflies, umbrella birds and the endangered Quetzal. Here is where you will get to experience the Sky Tram which is suitable for all ages. Before you start, your guide will give you a brief explanation about security measures and will provide you with the equipment you'll need for this adventure. The slow-paced Sky Tram gondolas glide smoothly, offering impressive views of the cloud forest. Accompanied by a bilingual guide, the ride takes around 20 minutes with the possibility of short stops to take one-of-a-kind photographs or to spot a tropical bird. The Sky Trek will return you to the starting point, and during it you will slide through cables that extend into the middle of the forest. You’ll also be enticed by the alluring scents of Costa Rican’s traditional dish as we feast for lunch before returning to our accommodations where the rest of the evening is at your own leisure.
*INCLUDED -- Transfers: Monteverde (approx. 30 mins). Activities: Sky tram, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Accommodation: Hotel in Monteverde
